Custom Farming

Grow custom crops with Growstations, temperature, farming items, Elysium, and skill upgrades.

What is Custom Farming?

SkyMata's custom farming system lets you level up farming skills and manage crops with more detailed growing conditions. Plants can react to temperature and planting environments, and farming items can change temperature, environment, or growth speed.

For the in-game tutorial, use /farm help.

Useful Commands

Getting Started

Purchase Seeds in the Farm Market

Use /pyrofarm market to purchase seeds and bushes. More become available as you level up.

Earn Elysium to Upgrade Skills

Harvesting Growstation crops and bushes can reward Elysium. Elysium is spent in the Skill Archive on farming upgrades.

Workstations

Growstation

A Growstation is required for custom farming seeds. To craft one, place a standard pot in the center of a crafting table and surround it with wheat seeds.

Place the Growstation and fill it with water. It can still function before the tank is completely full. The source guide says players begin with capacity for 10 Growstations and can unlock more through the Skill Archive with Elysium.

Composter With Hoe

Custom farming items are accessed by placing a composter and right-clicking it with a hoe. This opens the custom-item GUI used to craft/place farming support items.

Skill Archive

The Skill Archive is required for farming skill upgrades and is unlocked at custom farming level 7. The source guide says it is crafted with 4 tomatoes, 4 lettuce, and 1 lectern. Place the lectern and right-click it to open the archive.

Custom Farming Items

The source guide describes 12 craftable custom farming items. They are placeable mini-blocks that change crop temperature, environment, or growth speed. These items are level-based and use vanilla items plus crops/seeds unlocked through farming progression.

Custom Plants and Bushes

Plants have their own preferred growing conditions. The two major systems described by the guide are temperature and plant temperament.

Temperature

Some plants grow across many temperatures while others have narrow preferences. The biome where a Growstation is placed can help or hurt crop growth. Farming support items can modify the local environment so a crop can thrive outside its normal conditions.

Plant Temperament

Custom plants can have different traits and environmental preferences. Read the plant information in the codex/market before planting so you know where a crop performs best.

Farming Skills

Farming skills are purchased with Elysium at the Skill Archive. Skills follow prerequisite paths, so earlier upgrades must often be completed before later upgrades become available.

The source guide's Plant Skill examples include:

  • More Growstations 1–4 — up to level 5 each; increases Growstation capacity.
  • More Growstations 5 — up to level 3; increases Growstation capacity.
  • Better Tanks 1 — up to level 5; increases Growstation water capacity.
  • Rain Fill — level 1; slowly fills loaded Growstations that have access to rain.
  • Growstation XP 1 — up to level 5; increases Farming XP from harvesting.
  • Growstation XP 2 — up to level 10; further increases Farming XP.
  • Growstation Elysium 1 — up to level 5; increases Elysium earned from harvesting.
  • Growstation Mutation Chance 1 — up to level 10; increases the chance of random mutations.

The Skill Archive contains additional bush and progression branches. Use the book in the bottom row of the archive to switch between skill categories. These Skill Archive upgrades are separate from upgrades purchased directly at a Growstation.
